Horizon Cremation are a niche crematoria operator creating architecturally designed crematoria set within great landscape areas and built to serve local communities. Horizon received planning permission for the project Cannock Chase Crematorium in January 2019. The work was delivered by Arthur M Griffiths & Son Ltd [AMG], which is based in Wolverhampton. The site was opened in Spring 2021. Treske were commissioned by Horizon to install 144 St Magnus solid oak stacking chairs with seagrass seats, Office reception desk in oak, Curtains, Voiles, as well as Controls and motorised tracks, and the catafalque.
As with Horizon’s other crematoria at East Renfrewshire and at Clyde Coast & Garnock Valley, Treske has installed contemporary voiles instead of conventional committal curtains. This allows the committal space and catafalque to be closed at the end of the service but the coffin can still be viewed through the slightly sheer voile curtain fabric.
At Cannock Chase crematoria which opened in 2021, Treske have installed their St Magnus chairs for the chapel seating. These oak chairs have rush seats and stack, also have linkages, and felt pads on each of the chair legs to reduce any noise as they are moved.
The Horizon logo is a spiral of reducing carved circles towards the centre – which Treske have machined and mounted onto both the catafalque and the reception desk made for Cannock Chase.
Cannock Chase Crematorium is built on the site of the Bleak House open cast mine and the wall art at the site shows images of the previous use of the site. The proud mining heritage is recognised and link to the local people who worked at the site and embraces the site reinventing itself in the community.
The site is aware of its environmental impact and installed Matthews cremators using LPG, as well as solar panels which have been installed on the roof to provide part of the electricity needed to power the site, with the surplus being sold to the national grid. In order to minimise water usage on the site, tap restrictors have been installed as well as run-off water being reused to irrigate plants and flowers.
Treske supplied Howe 40/4 upholstered chairs and seating, also designing and making bespoke crematorium furniture consisting of a bariatric catafalque, frontals, reader, AV controls, console table, cross, flower stands and memorial bookcase, along with curtains and tracking for the committal area.
Bespoke crematoria stacking chairs made in oak and with rush seats, to the design Treske designed for St Magnus Cathedral on Orkney.
Darlington Council commissioned Treske to supply a turntable catafalque, lectern, console table, flower plinths, two coffin stands, chapel seating with two front rows of sofa seating, integrated AV and committal curtains and their control systems for the chapel, as well as waiting room furniture.
