Bishopbriggs Crematorium, located to the northeast of Glasgow, the latest of the Westerleigh Group’s growing list of crematoria, designed with peace and comfort in mind, officially opened in December 2024.
The crematorium's environmentally conscious design is a key feature of this site, with the latest cremator technology, zonal heating and low energy lighting to help reduce its overall carbon footprint. The Chapel, designed in a contemporary style, with a neutral colour palette can comfortably accommodate 120 mourners with substantial additional space for stand to accommodate large funerals.
The furniture and seating have been designed and manufactured by Treske Ltd with the aim of providing a modern, flexible and comfortable space for those wishing to mourn, commemorate and celebrate the lives of their loved ones.
The items provided by Treske includes a fully movable catafalque, rise and fall motorised lectern, solid oak dado rails, solid oak wall cross and 120 Nova chairs with provision of three additional armchairs for use within the chapel. The soft furnishings, in carefully coordinated fabrics, were also provided by Treske - including the supply and fitting of all motorised curtain tracks together with the main committal, voile and transfer curtains.
One of the latest innovations on the site involved the Treske team working very closely alongside audio-visual specialists, Obitus, to ensure the curtain controls could be operated seamlessly with both music and lighting to allow for full control of all audio visual elements for each service. With Obitus offering an almost unlimited choice of music, whether it is a loved one’s favourite song, sports club anthem or traditional hymn, the three high-resolution screens can display slideshow tributes and written words for extended personalisation of the service.
The manager of Bishopbriggs Crematorium, Donnie Connor, has been with Westerleigh Group since 2019, and Donnie is no stranger to helping establish a new crematorium within a local community, having been the first manager of Westerleigh’s Stirlingshire Crematorium when it opened in 2019.
He said: “I am proud to be the first manager of this exceptional crematorium, which is one of the most environmentally friendly facilities in the UK. We are using the very latest in cremator technology, which makes a significant difference towards offsetting our carbon footprint.
Now we are open, we can warmly welcome and serve people from the communities in and around the Greater Glasgow area and provide them with the exceptional care that the Westerleigh Group is renowned for.”
Treske are very proud of their involvement with this impressive new Crematorium site for Westerleigh Group.
