Hambleton District Council have built a new crematorium facility on the outskirts of Thirsk, a busy market town in North Yorkshire. Treske was selected by Hambleton Council, the CDS Group and Benchmark Architects to design and manufacture the new furniture and soft furnishing requirements for the new crematorium.
Named Maple Park in recognition of the Royal Canadian Airforce aircraft crews who were based on the local WW2 airfield, the new Crematorium is a state-of-the-art facility with an electric cremator.
The crematorium has been furnished by Treske in consultation with Benchmark Architects, Wilmot Dixon the main contractor and the client Hambleton District Council. The chapel furniture consists of upholstered sofas as front family seating with the remainder HOWE wooden stackable upholstered seating, a bespoke catafalque and lectern with integrated audio-visual controls for the track and curtain system and curtains also installed by Treske.
Fabrics chosen for the different rooms furnished reflect the colours of the maple leaf as it goes from greens to reds through a season. Reception, family room and café chairs and tables, as well as garden furniture were all provided by Treske. Attention to design detail linking the different items of furniture from flower stands to the catafalque was important in producing a cohesive, light and calm welcoming ambiance to the new Crematorium.
The buildings are designed with the concept of simple rural barn structures within the country landscape of North Yorkshire. The buildings are connected and a covered external canopy over the flower court links the main service hall to the function/wake building that houses the cafe.
The different spaces have distinct sequential roles to play as visitors move from the parking to the welcome building and onto the service hall. After the service visitors can move through the flower court to the function and wake building in which are the café facilities.
The Chapel is a multi-faith hall that can accommodate approximately 125 people. Treske made different faith symbols to fit onto the lecterns.
Crematoria furniture including the reception desk, catafalques for two chapels with seating on curved benches designed especially by Treske, with console tables, flower stands and a lectern with full audio visual and curtain controls installed.
Treske designed a catafalque with a rise and fall platform, with heavy duty bariatric rollers, as well as an oak lectern and stacking Harrogate chairs.
Treske supplied Howe 40/4 upholstered chairs and seating, also designing and making bespoke crematorium furniture consisting of a bariatric catafalque, frontals, reader, AV controls, console table, cross, flower stands and memorial bookcase, along with curtains and tracking for the committal area.
