Llwydcoed Crematorium the second crematorium to be opened in Rhondda Cynon Taf near Aberdare in South Wales and is set amongst a peaceful landscape of gardens. The crematorium has two chapels with one larger main chapel and a smaller more intimate Family Chapel.
Treske were asked to help with the design and layout of both chapels with the selection of fabric designs and bespoke furniture designs to transform the spaces. Treske supplied 170 bespoke Harrogate chairs upholstered in a hard wearing fabric to fit with the selected colour palette. In addition Treske renewed all the existing curtains and fitted a new curtain and pelmet in the main chapel.
The existing stone wall mounted altars received two new upholstered panels around their bases above which a wall cross was designed using irregular pippy oak shapes mounted onto a metal frame to create a sculptural cross. This sculptural wall cross can be covered up by new hand pulled curtains if no religious references are required for any of the services.
Two new lecterns were designed – both included feature matched veneer burr oak panels on the front face of the lectern – one mounted on a raised platform for the main chapel, with the smaller chapel’s on a lower plinth. Both chapels each have two flower stands, which have been designed using pippy oak pilasters surrounding a painted panel to give a contemporary look. A bookshelf in main chapel for hymn books was also installed.
