For the recent re-ordering of the nave and transepts undertaken by John Niven Architects, Treske designed and made freestanding, four-seater pews which permits various liturgical layouts and a wide range of community events and activities. The handsome pews have been designed to be graceful and light in weight but with enough strength over a two metre span to seat four people comfortably.
The choir uses the same benches as the congregation, but on the back there are removable readers, while freestanding readers front the choir. They are complimented by freestanding choir stalls and an octagonal, pedestal style altar, also purpose designed and made in light oak by Treske.
The altar design was developed from the church’s ‘chalice’ shaped 14th century limestone font which has a column rising from a concave curved base. The altar top is octagonal and the four corner uprights with their simple mouldings rise and arch their way to the under-frame, creating a light open structure.
I write simply to express our hearty thanks for your contribution to the internal reordering of St Michael's and, especially, for the design and production of the magnificent altar. The altar conveys real presence without being monolithic or overpowering. Its graceful lines and generous proportions reinforce the benevolence of the sacrament that will be celebrated upon it each week.
In partneship with Ron Sims Architect, a new altar, glazed internal porch, side screens and a new servery, complete with fittings and appliances, were made and installed by Treske for this historic church.
For All Saints Church in North Lincolnshire Treske designed, made and installed nearly 220 side, arm and folding chairs, hymn book and Parish room cabinets including choir vestry cupboards and a historical wind instrument display, a specifically designed altar and one memorial book stand.
The furniture for a new chapel at Church House, Diocese of Oxford was designed and made by Treske, including six three-seat stacking St Mary's benches in oak and a bespoke altar design.
