Treske designed a set of furniture for the Bishop of Bristol’s private chapel in Winterbourne. The style is light and visual so as not to put up barriers within the small space of the chapel and to enable easy use. The timber chosen was Ash, selected for its character and contrast between the darker heartwood and lighter outer timber.
The altar is small, easy to handle and move; on the altar’s surface is a simple shaped bible stand in a stylised version of open hands.
The tablernacle is combined with the credence table and is designed to fit in the corner of the room, with legs that avoid conflict with skirting. The flow of the leg design through the top of the credence table provides the structure for the tabernacle cabinet. The interior of the tabernacle is designed to accommodate the communion cup and two bottles standing in front of a small shelf upon which oils are placed.
The chairs have leather upholstered seats and backs and are easy to move. The crest of the Bishop of Bristol, a gold decal set into the front of the top chair back rail, denotes the Bishop and Celebrant chairs from the other chapel seating. The two main chairs also have matching prie-dieu both with pull out kneelers, upholstered in the same leather as the chairs.
